1. Monterosso al Mare
It is not the most important town but it is the one that has a beach of fine sand. Besides the beach, you should visit some of its historical places such as the Capuchin Monastery and the Church of San Francesco. On the cliff you can see the medieval Torre Aurora, that was built to protect the town from pirate attacks. In addition, along the beach you can relax on a terrace with a cool drink, or take a dive in the fresh waters.
2. Vernazza
It can be said that Vernazza is the most important town of Cinque Terre. The one you’ll recognise from the postcards with its picturesque and colourful houses located on a cliff. The houses are all piled up located in narrow streets leading to one Piazza. In order to have an amazing view of this town you should take the path from Monterosso al Mare to Vernazza. You will see that below the houses there are boats are floating on the clear blue waters. Also Vernazza has a fort that protected the town from attacks: Belfort. Or visit the parish church of St. Margaret of Antioch.
3. Corniglia
This is the highest village, and the only one without a harbour since it is located 182 metres above the sea. Many people choose the skip this town because, when you arrive here by train, you have to walk more than 300 steps to reach Corniglia. However, once in Corniglia, you can enjoy an amazing seaview and it is much more quiet than the other towns of Cinque Terre. On Terrazza di Santa Maria you’ll have the best views.
4. Manarola
Visit this town with your a loved one, because you are going to love it: it is the most romantic town of all 5. The best place to have a romantic meal, after you’ve visited the Gothic church of the Natività di Maria Vergine. Also this town has paths you can walk if you are looking for those special views. In addition, you’ll discover that this town is known for its wine production, during your hike – try a glass of the Sciacchetrà white wine while enjoying the great seafood in the cosiest restaurants.
5. Riomaggiore
The last one is called the “capital” of Cinque Terre, it is the easternmost town and the largest one, named after the river crossing it. It was built in the thirteenth century, a place where you can fully enjoy its medieval charm, and drink a glass of wine in one of its many restaurants. We recommend you to end your day in Riomaggiore to enjoy the beautiful sunset that will let the colourful houses glow. Besides, you should visit the Church of San Giovanni Battista of Riomaggiore located in the highest part of the town.
Keep in mind that Cinque Terre is very popular among tourists, therefore it would be best if you visit this national park as a city trip because the place will be too crowded for a normal vacation.
