Discover Formentera…

We are already so excited for it to start getting hotter! In the Muchosol offices we hear the words ‘sea’, ‘sun’ and ‘summer’ on a daily basis… so much so that it is no wonder that Mar from our marketing department couldn’t resist writing about an idyllic destination which embodies all these words in the fifth installment of ‘Our Team Recommends’.

Our Team Recommends part 5 Formentera

Hi Mar! Which destination do you recommend?

Hey! To make the most of my favourite time of the year which is approaching, I would like to share with you a mediterranean paradise which tends to be not so well known, or doesn’t receive the recognition that it deserves.

For me it is one of the most beautiful places which I have had the pleasure of stepping foot on: the Island of Formentera.

What do you find special about this place?

In Formentera time stops and loses importance… there is no room for stress, nor plans, nor burdens… you just live and enjoy every second, living entirely in the present moment. The feeling of being away from everyday life that normally surrounds us, far from the rush, new technologies, and routine is indescribable… the body and mind connect and regenerate in a beautiful setting: pure, natural landscapes, untouched beaches and crystal clear waters.

Which parts of the island are essential to visit?

Every centimetre of the island is a must, but if I have to be more specific I would definitely start with Ses Illetes, one of the best beaches in the world with white sands and blue waters. It is situated on the northern part of the island and has a unique beauty about it with an area of land which narrows into the Mediterranean Sea, converting the landscape into a stunning picture.

I must also recommend the two ends of the island: the Barbaria headland and the Mola headland and their lighthouses. The views from the cliffs in there are incredible.

I most definitely suggest a visit to Ses Platgetes which is an area of small coves with very clean and clear water. This is a simple example of the environmental care which is characteristic of this island.

Finally, the town of Pilar de la Mola is well worth a visit. There is a special event held there every year, usually around 24th June, during which a huge bonfire is lit and concerts take place to celebrate the start of the summer. It really is an unforgettable experience!

What do you like most about this island?

I love that caring for the environment is a priority on Formentera. This is reflected in the clean and pure landscapes, the nature that can live and grow without being interfered with or harmed and the clean mediterranean sea which is home to an important natural marine reserve.

What is your favourite spot in Formentera?

What a difficult question…

I think that I will stick to the two tips of the island: at the one end Ses Iletes, which is like entering paradise without the hassle of flying all the way to the Caribbean with the winning combination of sand, sun, and clear waters. And at the other end: the views from the cliffs at La Mola.

Illetes Formentera

Do you know of a secret spot which you would be willing to share with us?

Yes… I have a suggestion, although it involves getting up very early, even before it is light outside. Take the scooter or motorbike that you have rented and go to the cliffs where the Torre des Pi des Català stands. From there you will see one of the most beautiful sunrises of your entire life!

Describe your perfect day in Formentera.

Early in the morning before doing anything else, I would hire a scooter from the Puerto de la Savina (the port), perfect for exploring the whole island.

Then I would do a tour around l’Estany Pudent until I reached the Ses Illetes beach where I’d stop to sunbathe, swim and have a stroll around this beautiful secluded spot.

As lunchtime begins to near, I would get back on the scooter and cross the island to the other side: la Mola. Before arriving, however, I would stop off at one of the towns, such as Pilar de la Mola to visit an artisan market and have a bite to eat in one of the traditional restaurants.

I would continue my journey to the top of La Mola to stop and enjoy the breathtaking landscape and to explore the lighthouse and its surroundings.

Following that, I would descend back down the road to Ses Platgetes to spend the afternoon relaxing and bathing in the sea.

As the sun begins to set it’s time to head to the cape of Barbaria.

In the evening I would go out in one of the towns to soak up the atmosphere, maybe see a concert and just simply enjoy that summer feeling.

What would be the song of the holiday?

Without a doubt, “You and I” by Crystal Fighters.

Do you have any advice for future visitors?

Above all, don’t be afraid to improvise. Spontaneity is part of life on the island. Dare to get lost, unwind and switch off your phone! Just enjoy the moment and appreciate Formentera in all its glory.

And of course look after the island, look after such a beautiful place and be respectful to the environment – and if you can bring back and continue this habit on your return home then all the better!

Thanks Mar for your advice. We hope that your experience of the beautiful island of Formentera will prove interesting and useful to our readers.

And as always, to help you try to guess what destination we will recommend in next month’s edition of Our Team Recommends, here’s a clue: It’s a destination along the Leavnte Coast which is well known for it’s nightlife.
