Today we would like to introduce you to our colleague Lisa Oranje who is going to tell you more about her favourite destination: Lake Garda.
Tell us something about yourself and why you work for Muchosol
My name is Lisa Oranje and I am 21 years old. I am from the Netherlands but at the moment I live in Valencia for 5 months. I have only one month left to enjoy this wonderful city before I return to the Netherlands. But why do I live here? Well, I am doing my internship at Muchosol for my Bachelor of Business Administration. At Muchosol I am part of the marketing department and I am busy with, among others, the Dutch social media channels and creating content for the blog Espaces.
Where did you travel to over the past year?
This year has been a year full of trips. At the beginning of the year I went to Curaçao to visit a friend, after that to Paris for a city trip, to Austria for skiing holidays, then to Shanghai for a school project and during the summer holidays I went to Lake Garda in Italy and Zakynthos in Greece. And during my adventure in Valencia I have been to Ibiza for a getaway.
Wow, that are many destinations! And what is your favourite and why?
This year, Curaçao and Shanghai have been the two highlights. I have never been in an airplane for so long and everything is so different in China. However, my favourite destination has always been Lake Garda in Italy. We have spend our holidays here for so many times, that is feels like coming home every summer. When I am there I do not have to think about anything and I can do my thing (this is usually relaxing in the sun all day :D). That is the ultimate holiday feeling for me.
How many times have you been in Garda?
I was three months old when we first went to Lake Garda, now I am 21 years old and we go every year… you can do the math yourself ;). We haven’t been here for maybe once or twice, but I cannot even remember that. That’s why it feels like coming home for me. I know everything and everyone, it’s amazing!
Are you planning to go back?
Yes, absolutely! I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I may not be able to go with my parents for the full 3 weeks (sorry mom and dad)… My boyfriend and I would like to go on holidays together as well, only we still have to choose our destination. However, wherever I go, I will certainly visit my parents on Lake Garda.
What is your best memory of Lake Garda?
Pff, I have so many… But I think I am the most thankful for all the people I have met here. Every year you see the same faces and I was able to make real friendships. That is a really nice feeling when you go on holidays.
What is the best thing to do on Lake Garda?
I really love to spend the whole day on a boat on the water. There are so many cute villages located around Lake Garda. By boat they can be reached easier than by car and you can also enjoy the weather while sailing on the lake. Almost everywhere around Lake Garda you have the possibility to rent a boat. Up to 40HP, it is not necessary to have a sailing certificate.
Saló is one of my favourite villages, the perfect place to enjoy a drink on the terrace at the boulevard. To taste the best ice creams, you should go to Sirmione. I am sure you’ve never seen that many ice cream parlors and differents flavours.
What would you recommend those who are going to visit Lake Garda?
Like I said before, to rent a boat with less than 40HP you don’t need a license, that’s why I would recommend you to at least rent a boat one day during your holidays. From the water everything looks so different and it will lead you to the best places. The so-called creepy terraces in Tremosine are also highly recommended. From here you can enjoy a stunning view of Lake Garda. It is one of the most photogenic places of the lake, so do not forget to bring your camera (and batteries!).
For a day out, there is plenty of choice around Lake Garda. A visit to a market is for example very nice, here you will find stalls with typical Italian products. Tip: leave a little bit early in the morning, later the temperatures may be too high. In addition, Verona, Venice and Milan are easy to reach from here. Three amazing cities with all their own charm, you should visit at least one of them during your holidays here.
Would you recommend it to families, of friends or couples?
The camping site where we always went to is perfect for families, it is called camping Fornella. However, Lake Garda is suitable for almost everyone. There are many things you can do here, from visiting nice towns to theme parks and festivals. It is great for everybody!
Finally, which destination is at the top of your bucket list?
This is without a doubt New York! That is really THE city I want to go to once in my life. For me it feels like it is the capital of the world that I just have to visit. After seeing all the great pictures and hearing the amazing stories about this city, I am even more excited about the Big Apple.
