How is the water landscape of Jávea?
The first thing you should know is the way in which the land of Javea is divided.
- Marine Reserve of Cabo de San Antonio
The coast in this area is formed by both cliffs and beaches consisting of sand and rocks. The winds blow pretty hard here, that’s why it is necessary to ask for a special permit to practice diving in this place because of protecting the aquatic ecosystems.
- Portitxol bay
It is one of the most valued areas in Javea where you can dive or snorkel and where we find the most caves and underwater cracks. Some of the species found here attests to the good quality of the sea in this area, we are talking about the presence of Cystoseira algae.
- The Montgó Natural Park
Although it also extends through the towns of Denia and Ondara, the Montgó Natural Park is one of the places that gives the beautiful Javea the most life. Here are concentrated both plant species and seabirds typical of the Mediterranean. A paradise for scuba divers and a nature lovers.
- La Granadella Forest Park
The beach that has the same name is one of the most famous in the country because of its natural beauty, so this park is another of the most important green spaces of Jávea. This has become the ultimate enclave for diving and here starts one of the marine routes that you can do during your trip. Do you want to discover more routes?
Routes for diving in Javea
If you think that there are only routes for hiking, then you are wrong… In Javea there are 10 routes to discover the seabed. Are you coming with us to discover them? They are spread all over the bay and they are perfect if you would like to go diving in Javea.
If it is your first time in the underwater world, we recommend you start with the Tangó route, since it is the easiest. The waters of this route have depth of up to 12 meters and you can access it from the beach.
The second one is the Cap Negre route, only this one has to be accessed by boat and has a depth is 15 meters. Another route that you can do after the above mentioned or when you already have practised diving before, is the Cabo de San Antonio. This one has a depth of -20 meters and a medium difficulty. The same as the Escull del Cabo route, however this one has a depth between 30 and 32 meters.
At Cabo de San Martín starts a diving route known as Mona del Cap Prim, it waters have a depth of 29 meters and a medium difficulty. The L’Illa route can only accessed by boat, with also a medium level and has a depth of 21 meters.
The most complicated route is Escull de Sant Pere and is only recommended for professional divers, since it is necessary to use a 15L bottle and a compass. Thus if you still do not have a lot of experience in diving, you can do, as we told you, the La Granadella route, with a depth of only 10 meters and starting from the beach.
Snorkelling and diving in Jávea
You already discovered the natural and marine landscape of Jávea, also the routes that can be done in this area. If you are someone who likes to snorkel during your holidays, you are going to love a vacation in Jávea. The areas that we recommend to practice snorkelling are: Cala Blanca, Cala Portitxol, Cala Granadella and Cala Sardinera. The latter is the least touristy because the access is more complicated, but once you descend the mountain, you will understand why it is worth it.
Regarding diving in Javea, there are many companies in this area where you can practice professional diving. In the Tourist Office you will find all the information about the water routes we mentioned in this article and some companies where you can take lessons.
