Rovinj, Istria
If you decided to go scuba diving in Croatia, this is one of the diving spots you should have been to. In Rovinj there are many wrecks that sank to the bottom, which you can go explore. The best known you can find here is the wreck of the passenger ship Baron Gautsch. This Austro-Hungarian ship was no less than 84.5 metre long and 11.64 metres wide. When it sailed via the usual route on 13 August 1914, it came into contact with a sea mine. Within 10 minutes it sank to 42 metres deep. Unfortunately, 240 innocent passengers were killed.
Nowadays there is the possibility to discover the inside of the passenger ship. It is the most beautiful wreck in the Adriatic Sea. However, we have to admit that this dive isn’t for everyone – besides experience you also need a licence. Do you have experience but no license? No worries! You can also take the dive accompanied by a guide from a diving school. Fortunately, there are 10 diving schools in the area, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Šibenik, Kaprije island
Kaprije is an island that belongs to the Šibenik archipelago. Within 30 or 60 minutes you can reach it from the coast by boat. It is known for its many hidden coves that are located here. In addition, there is a wall under water. Dive 20 or 45 metres down, along the steep wall that is full of living creatures. Good to know: this dive can suit anyone, beginner or advanced, it doesn’t matter!
As in most places, there is also a wreck you can explore. One that is definitely worth the visit is the wreck of the Francesca de Rimini. This is an iron ship from the Second World War that has been well preserved. The ship was fired and sank on 22 March 1944. It is located on the northern coast of the Kaprije Island and you can visit it!
